Good but.... Mar 25, 2010
By Sickpup94 I bought this wetsuit 5-6 months ago. At first, I was impressed. It had a lot of features for an entry level wetsuit. Like a leg key pocket, soft lined inner stomach area, smooth neck area (to avoid rubbing). It also was very good at keeping me warm in 55 degree water.
Now the bad...
Since I bought it, I had nothing but trouble with the zipper sticking while trying to zip it up. Yesterday, one of the teeth broke off the zipper and the suit can't zip up now.
I noticed the inseam glue had come undone and it was coming apart.
The stitching on the collar came undone and eventually tore when trying to velcro it shut.
The stitching on the key pocket, on the leg, was slowly unravelling and the key loop felt flimsy.
My old entry level Body Glove Stealth 4/3 lasted a year and a half, surfing 4-6 times a week and I never had a problem. The O'neill Epic lasted maybe 6 months with me only using it 1-2 times a week.
I went to two local surf shops for a new wetsuit and both of them recommended other brands because they felt O'neill's quality control had gone down hill. I would have to agree.
I will be sending it back to O'neill and we will see what the warranty will cover. In the meantime, I am looking at getting a Body Glove Vapor because of the good reliability and quality that I've experienced with that company.

The Ultimate Cool Water Suit Sep 11, 2011
By Stephen A. Bjork
"StBjork"
Having owned many wetsuits for surfing over the last 25 years, I found that they get a little better each year. There are small nuances that make this a great surfing wetsuit that are not obvious when comparing to other purpose-designed suits or from other manufacturers. The newer neoprene is smoother, lighter more durable, more flexible and warmer and the seams are glued and blind stitched so that water cannot penetrate at the seams. Step into the cold water and you stay warm and dry inside. This technology mirrors the (much) more expensive Psycho suits by O'Neill. O'Neill is based in Santa Cruz and the owner Jack O'Neill is a surfer from back in the early 60's and lives in a cold water environment. So you know that the president of the company is focused on cold-water surfing first and foremost. This company did not sell out to Wall Street and the focus is squarely on Surf Suits.
The Epic II is designed with a "firewall" chest and back. This is because over 60% of the surf time is spent straddling the board with the chest being exposed to the cold wind and air. The hard neoprene chest blocks wind and retains heat around the chest and kidneys to keep the whole blood system warm. The warm blood then circulates to keep your extremities warm. There are no seams running down the Butt area so straddling the board does not put undue stress on the rear seams. Second about 30% of the time the surfer is paddling. The arms and shoulders have a thinner super-flex neoprene with no seams in the paddle areas. This is so there is little resistance when paddling. The neck has a soft and sticky neoprene that locks out the water from "flushing" through the suit when punching through waves. The fit is completely adjustable. Finally, the lower legs are of a thinner and more flexible material that allows the surfer to bend the knees fully when taking off on a wave. There are also reinforced knee pads, since some of my early "diving" wetsuit would wear holes in the knees from the constant scraping the board on take-off. These are all things that only a surfer would know about wetsuits. And Jack O'Neill is an expert. I have owned Body-Glove, Rip Curl, Excel and other suits and nothing compares to the fit and function of an O'Neill suit. Other suits are designed for style and multi-purposes but if you surf and surf cold conditions, spend a little more and go with O'Neill. Because of the new flexible technology, I go with a suit that is slightly smaller and tighter than before since above all, you want a snug fit. A loose suit allows water to wash through defeating the whole purpose of the suit. The new technology eliminates chaffing and rash that was common before with tighter suits. The Epic has all the right things for surfing water between 60 and 75 degrees. It is far lighter, more flexible, smoother and more durable than any suit in the past. This all really matters if you are serious about surfing. If you plan on colder water (50-60 degrees Fahrenheit 10-15 Celsius) go with the Psycho II, or a 4mm: 3mm version of the Epic II, otherwise this is the best all-around suit made, hands down. You will be glad you did and have no regrets. Be sure to rinse the suit with fresh water after each use and hang on a wooden hanger, in the shade, until fully dry. The suit should look like new forever.
I have owned many O'Neill suits and if I take care of them and get the right fit, they last forever.
great design works as advertised Jan 11, 2012
By A. Reader This kept me warm in 3 3 hours surf sessions in Pacifica over Winter. Were talking temps in the 40s with wind and a water temp of like 52. One day I stupidly forgot my gloves and boots and still managed to stay out for 2 hours. The arms and legs are very flexible. The chest is extra tough to keep you warm.
I'm currently 6' and 165lbs. The MT fits, with a lot of length left over mostly in the legs. But still no water seapage. It makes a great tight seal at the neck. This is an area most suits neglect. Howver watch out for the velcro. Its gotten stuck and pilled my suit in several places. Seems just cosmetic, but ive never had that happen with other suits.
This is a great suit for active water sports at this price. I have to say though, maybe I'm an idiot, but I could not find the key pocket. And figured it didnt have one. (My leash does, so I used that, but I always feel safer using my suit.) The description page says it has a key pocket, so I shall re look once I get home or next time I got out.
Its a great suit. Get it!

By water worker I've only worn it once so far, but it was good. I was in 48 degree water for about 2 hours and never even got a chill. The seams on this suit are good. not much leakage. I would highly reccommend this wetsuit to someone looking for a no frills, practical, cheap weatsuit.
